Ride Grey Bruce (2 - 3 Days)

This 2 - 3 Day Georgian Bay Coastal Route motorcycle tour will have you cruising the best roads from Collingwood to Tobermory, Ontario, while enjoying great food, motorcycle friendly accommodation and stops along the way.

Day 1

Start your tour in Collingwood today, touring to The Blue Mountains and Scenic Caves Nature Adventures to start. Explore the labyrinth of caves and spend some time suspended above the world, as you cross Ontario’s longest suspension footbridge hanging 25 metres above the treetops! Be sure to stop and savour the view of Georgian Bay more than 300 metres in elevation below! When you’re finished, take a cruise through the Beaver Valley, along the windy path through the villages of Clarksburg and Heathcote. In Eugenia, park your bike and follow the short path to Eugenia Falls. On your return, through Kimberley, take Grey County Road 7 to the left. Upon ascending out of the valley, stop on the right at the Epping Lookout for a view of the valley below. Continue on Grey Country Road 7 to Meaford, then head west of town (via Hwy 26) to Grey County Road 112. Here turn right (north). At the end of the road, you’ll find the Irish Mountain Lookout (on the right after you ascend the hill) – and another great view over the valley to the Bay below. If your stomach is starting to grumble, consider a stop at Ted’s Range Road Diner on your way back down the hill. Ted’s serves up lots of local and interesting cuisine, and offers a dining experience like no other. Continue on south County Road 12, to 40 through Walters Falls and the village of Bognor. Follow the route through Annan, and Leith, finally landing in Owen Sound for the night. Once in Owen Sound, be sure to visit Inglis Falls before checking in for the night.

Day 2

Follow the scenic route along Grey Road 1 from Owen Sound to Wiarton this morning. In Big Bay, be sure to stop at the Big Bay General Store for delicious homemade ice cream. Once in Wiarton, you’ll find a statue of Wiarton Willie at the Bluewater Park – take the time for a photo op. The real live version lives across the street in his display burrow in front of the library. If you’re lucky, you may catch a glimpse of him before you hit the road again. Continue north of Wiarton, turning right onto Bruce County Road 9 at the top of the hill outside town. This route will take you on the roads less travelled all the way to Lion’s Head, where you’ll head for the Marina and another photo opportunity with the Lion’s Head Lighthouse. If you feel like a short ride today, stop for the night at Taylor Made B&B in Lion’s Head. If you’re back on the road, take Highway 6 North to Tobermory. As you enter the town, turn right onto Codrington Street. At the end of the road, you’ll find the Parks Canada Visitor Centre, a great place to learn about the local area. The lookout tower on site provides an eagle eye view of the Bay. Next, head to the harbour in Tobermory for a glass bottom boat cruise of Fathom Five National Marine Park with the Blue Heron Company. View the ship wrecks and the islands, or go to Flower Pot Island to view the massive sea stack first hand. Upon your return, check in at your accommodation and relax as you head out for diner in this picturesque port village. It’s a great place sit on a bench and enjoy the ambiance while you savour some ice cream or some handmade fudge from The Sweet Shop.

If you stayed in Lion’s Head last night, you’ll want to head to Tobermory today to see all the sites (see Day 2). If Tobermory was the place you hung up your chaps, head back down the Bruce Peninsula today, taking the time to stop and enjoy some of the sights along the way as you make your way home. Make your way through Sauble Beach on beautiful lake Huron. Be sure to cruise the strip of this 11 kilometre stretch of pure golden sand beach. Of course if you have a few more days available to spend touring the Georgian Bay Coastal Route, you can always ride onto the Chi-Cheemaun ferry at the dock in Tobermory. A two hour ride will get you to Manitoulin Island, and some backroads made for a motorcycle!
